Linkdump
Given that work has started to suck again, please accept this linkdump post in lieu of what passes for thoughtful commentary around here. These are various items I've come across in the last couple of weeks, none of which are worth expanding into a full post on their own. Perhaps you'll find something of use or interest.
- I'm fascinated with the idea of carrying around all your essential applications on a USB key. It's a great way to always have your stuff with you without switching to a laptop. PortableApps.com has a great selection of trimmed down and streamlined versions of free programs (Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, etc.)
- I picked up a Creative Zen Vision a few months ago, which supports playing back video files on its beautiful 3.5" screen. The only trick is getting interesting content for the device. Fortunately I came across this tutorial on how to rip your DVDs for playback on portable devices, using free software. It is certainly nice to be able to watch my Residents videos or Twilight Zone episodes while waiting at the doctor's office.
- In addition to his marvelous and groundbreaking literature, William S. Burroughs wrote or starred in quite a few experimental films, several of which have been collected and made available at Reality Studio. I particularly recommend the Gus Van Sant-directed Thanksgiving Prayer.

I really think I have mild dyslexia. Everytime I read the title of this post, instead of seeing "linkdump" I see "limpdick". Or possibly I am corrupted beyond all hope of redemption. Hmm, that sounds about right.
I'd go for the latter, but in truth every time I see it I think the same thing. I'm sure that's no comfort to you, though.
