Hurricane preparedness, part 1
I have a friend who survived the 2005 hurricane season on Wolfgang Puck self-heating coffee. Okay, so that might take care of the mornings, but in those powerless, mosquito-infested evenings, perhaps you'll want to relax with a can of Miller self-chilling beer. It isn't going to be cheap, though, more for those with beer tastes and a champagne budget.
I'm not big on beer, so it doesn't help me much. Fortunately, Barbancourt is just fine without ice.

Wow! Seriously, someone needs to cash in on the hurricane business and make really inexpensive versions of these products to sell in bulk.
(Of course then my dad will still fuss with the propane stove to make his cafe con leche.)
I'm not big on beer either, but there's nothing like a real cold one when it's 100 degrees and humid both outside and in your house.
My most important hurricane accessory this season will be a boyfriend. I pray that God will send me a a nice strong one who can put up shutters and do BBQ before the first one hits. I mean really what ELSE Is there to do at night? Also, staying at your old folks for days on end without power is so boring and has literally driven me out of my mind. And staying home alone also sucks. And this year it's going to REALLY suck because without power and cable how am I going to blog? EEEEEK!
I should start interviewing candidates soon! :-)
It makes sense that Miller Beer will pioneer this process. This was the first bewery to experiment with "lite" beer, successfully using technology to remove taste. Years before, they perfected the technology of reducing effervescence from their products (should have called it "Miller Flat"). And they were first in the nation to remove color from beer bottles ("Miller Stands Clear"), showing off the eerie similarity of their product to cat urine.

Barbancourt. That's from Haiti! I saw that when I was there.
Yes it is, Cuervo, and one of the finest rums the world has yet produced, in my admittedly less than humble opinion.
coffee, beer, rum? i take 'em all.
ok, i have to admit that my hurricane experience is zero...
