The formative years
It's the time of year when high school seniors are graduating, or — failing that — attending their prom. In honor of this momentous occasion in the adolescent life cycle, all me to present the story of my own senior prom, and a lovely lass named Sheila.
[NB: This is an encore presentation, so you old-time visitors to the Hidden City have already seen this.]

I don't know why, but I look at your prom photo and I think "young man poses for portrait with his fiance before going off to fight for the confederacy, circa 1862." Then I think, "NicFit, that's a weird thing to think, and besides, Kentucky didn't even secede."
Never went to my prom, ate a fish sandwhich instead and got midly sick. My parent had no cultural refrence for the significance of prom, and were glad to be spared the expense.
I, too, was dating an underclassman at the time of my prom (my entire senior year and a couple after, in fact) - but we won't get into how under of an underclassman he was.
I have the terrible urge to ask everyone to post their prom picture like you did, because how awkward and funny and sad would that be?
I think we should all post our prom pixs....I am going to go find my now.
Posting the pics is a fun (but sad) idea.
And I, for one, don't have a prom pic as I, as well, did not attend. No way. Hell... I only attended one reunion in twenty some odd years - most of them really odd! (My apologies to the Professor of the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople).
Oh the prom! Looking back, it was much ado about nothing. I too was 'forced' into going by well-meaning parents.
But now here's a thought: maybe somewhere in between picking her up and returning her home, you ended up having a Mulder-style blackout during which the clock stopped. :-)
I could totally be lying to myself, but I think that right now I look pretty much the same as looked back then - except that I got a haircut recently.
I'm delusional, right?
I'm of the opinion that everyone is delusional. In your case, though, I'll need to see the prom photo first.
And Manola, do you mean I might have been probed during my prom?!
Prom photo? Did someone say "prom photo?" (There's a little, not much, more info, but another dorky photo, here.)
My scanner is buried somewhere under a pile of crap - all I have uploaded is my graduation pic. So no promness of me...
Her name was Ming? That's so cool. Did you get to call her Ming the Merciless?
i was that girl once, minus the flirting. went w/ my younger cousins neighbor to the sr prom when i was a soph and didnt really know him at all. Was very nice to him though, and talked to him at school, but that only lasted a few weeks more anyway..
Sorry your girl was such a skeez.
She wasn't a sleaze, Mish, she was just a sophomore. I never really saw her after that, so I can't say for certain how she turned out after her expopsure to me.
