Self(ish)-promotion
One aspect of The New Miamian I enjoy is the Miami Talks feature. I'm enough of a people person to enjoy reading about the lives of complete strangers. (Hey, blogging is in large part based on reading about the lives of complete strangers!) Well, the other day I noticed the following note at the end of the original profile:
**Want to be featured on the Real Miamians Talk Page? Answer the questions and send me your photo by email at: miamigirl@thenewmiamian.com No freaks need apply.
This reminded me of an old, old proto-blog-meme that was going around five or six years ago, the Blogger Insider. In it, people would be randomly paired up to interview one another via e-mail, with the resulting Q&As being posted on their respective sites. I participated in several interviews, and it was a lot of fun. It didn't last too long, as I recall, but was an entertaining way to meet someone new.
So having been put into a somewhat reflective mood, I decided to ignore the "no freaks" part of her message and introduce myself to MiamiGirl by answering her questions. It felt a bit awkward, initiating my own interview, but I soldiered bravely on, hoping that at the least she would laugh at my effrontery. Besides, isn't the web supposed to facilitate these new forms of social contact?
I must confess, though, I was still a bit surprised that she published it. Go ahead and read it, and more importantly, add The New Miamian to your bookmarks. It's a great site, and worth a daily read.

Great interview Kev. Best one on there so far and I really liked the one with her hubby OJ. Coolest guy this side of me ;)
An answer that was funny (not in a ha ha way). I think I told about someone else's whole to do with "garbage diggers". It was me and my family. I'm sure if you read my "Freedom Tower" post you could put the 2 and 2 together.

Nice to put a face with the initials.
:)
Nothing wrong with a little self-promotion. I love answering questions, especially if they're remotely interesting. Your interview was very interesting. :) Thanks for sharing the link.
Nice getting to know you better! I wanted to comment but it was disabled. Lookin' handsome with that beard!
And John, are you saying you didn't like Manola's exposé?
OMG, I can't even put anyone, even you Kev in Manola's level. Obviously you are much prettier. But its not fair cuz it's like I already know you from way back as personal freind! Seriously, if someone said "yada yada Maria...", I'd be like "hells yeah, I know her, she's the chillinist chick you'll find!" So THERE! I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Sorry for all that Kev and other readers...)
Thanks for the shout out and I am surprised that you...the one behind "hiddencity.net" filled out my interview. I am honored. By the way, I am waiting for the rest of you?? For me this is really a fun part of my blog because I think at times in this city we all feel lonely, isolated or whatever and it's nice to know that there are others out there just like us, who live in this crazy but I love it...city.
Miamista: OJ gives a shout out to you too!
Manola...Comments are back on. Sorry about that.
and with the interview comes a great picture... :)
good work.
Aw shucks, John. Thanks.
I must admit however that MKH is sporting that goatee quite handsomely, much better than I ever could, which reminds me, I better go bleach my moustache! LOL!!!
MiamiGirl, thank you for posting my little interview, and for keeping The New Miamian lively and entertaining. You are correct - too often this is a lonely pursuit. We should make an effort at creating some kind of South Florida blog-in.
Miamista, not in my most feverish dreams would I put myself above any of the other fascinating interview subjects, particularly not our moustachioed firebrand Manola. ;-)
Lastly, you are all far too kind as regards the photo, but I appreciate it. I spent hours poring over hundreds of digital images, looking for something I could pass off as me.
Oh get over it you hottie you.

you commie you!
Hhmm, I'm intrigued. Will check out The New Miamian and may fill the interview out - although I too would feel awkward conducting an interview just out of my own whim.
Here, I'll help you get over that:
"Hey, Tere, it would be really cool if you filled out MiamiGirl's interview!"
See, now it isn't entirely your idea, you are just fulfilling a reader's request. :-)
Ha! Thanks. I sent my answers in - if published, be prepared to be thrilled and amazed! :-)
