Korea's Odd-i N700D portable TV
I don't watch enough television to make one of these worthwhile, but I confess to be a certain fascination with the portable TVs available in the Asian markets. They use certain proprietary formats not in use in the US (DMB, for example) to send a digital signal to handheld sets that utilize LCD screens for a thin and light set you can take with you anywhere. Without a picture tube the battery life is much longer, and a 7" screen reduces the eyestrain considerably.
But what is it about television that makes people want to have it with them all the time? I'm a poor example, since I don't even have basic cable, and my rabbit ears only get a couple of ghostly, fuzzy channels. Still, plenty of people seem to want that immediate gratification that is only provided by watching game shows while driving.
*Anyone get the reference?
