Headquarters
It is a sad fact that people suffering from various forms of depression are often poor housekeepers; combine this with a lack of visitors, six cats, and a tendency to collect stuff, and you have a recipe for a visit from the HazMat team. While my home had not yet reached this level, its growing disarray had reached the point where it was starting to contribute to my depression, kick-starting a vicious circle.
So yesterday, in a effort to drag me out from under this cloud, my friend Diana came over to help clean my house. This is a significant sacrifice for her, since she is allergic to cats. Fortunately, she is one of those people who always look fashionable, even in an Army surplus gas mask. While I would love to say that we kicked the clutter's ass and am now submitting the place to House Beautiful, the reality is that several hours' work only got through the bathroom and the living room. Hey, it's a start.
So for no reason at all other than to say "thank you" to Diana, and to amuse those of you who might be curious as to the environment that spawns my personal weirdness, here's a short Flickr set of one room of the Hidden City HQ. Notes are provided for the interested.

And no, I am not cured of what ails me. But it does feel good to have a little more organization in the living room.

With all those bookcases your living room looks like heaven to me.
That's just the living room, so you haven't yet seen the other dozen or so bookcases.
It's looks perfectly lovely and cozy.
And I envy the bookshelves. My new house won't be able to accommodate all my books, not with a toddler running around, and not with his toys and books all over the place, and I'm kinda bummed about it.
you need new curtains, my friend! next time i visit i could bring a new pair...

i have wondered but never wanted to ask the details of your current lair. i like the sepia effect of the "natural" lighting. And thanks for the flickr notes. The place seems hospitable.
I remember it as being sepia-toned. And very cozy. And I really liked the bathroom. And your dishes. So there!
Rest easy, my friend. Happy Christmas. Come visit us in the land of raining._Halfmad
Nothing decorates like books. One day I want to see the City Cave in person, though ;) I'll bring my library card.
That is a good friend indeed. It is true that clutter adds to the depression of those who are depressed. I myself spent most of yesterday purging clutter that I hardly made a dent in. UGH.
Keep on keeping on and you will soon reach that cozy place where your Martha Stewart resides. Me, I want to be Donna Reed! *sigh*
