Sunrise service
In case anyone is interested, come New Year's Morning I'll be watching the sunrise over the ocean at Haulover Beach, near the marina. Yes, it's early, I know; according to the US Naval Observatory the morning's civil twilight begins at 6:42am, and actual sunrise will be 7:07am. However, having done this for several years now, it feels good to start the year this way.

It would be great if some of you decided to come by and join me. If you think you will, let me know. Perhaps we can make a pre-dawn picnic of it. Otherwise, Rascal House isn't too far away, and they have the best corned beef hash on the face of the earth.

I write for a magazine, in addition to the MH. And I'll probably be working for them on New Year's Eve, meaning I'll be finishing work at about 5 a.m. But my mom-in-law will be in town. And she and my wife were talking about doing the same thing (watcing the sunrise, etc.) on New Year's Day. I'll already be awake, so I'm up for it. I'll bounce it off of them. Unless they want to do it right by our house, in our own 'hood, then I could see us joining you.
Lovely idea! We greeted 2004 by going to the beach early in the morning (though not sunrise) and it was a wonderful day. I'm on my own New Year's Day, and I won't dare wake Max up before he's good and ready to do it on his own, so I can't commit. If he's up at his usual 6 a.m., though, I would love to join in.
And James, Haulover's not that far from you, just a bit south. Might be worth the drive to join up with the group!
that's a great idea...
Rascal House will be a 15 floor "mixed use complex" next year. Savor the hash and be certain to toast to what used to be Sunny Isles for me. Drink to the Wreck Bar, the statues of the pharoahs, the neon. Then leave your empty cups in front of the Trump Sonesta and do not look back or you'll be turned into a pillar of poop.
