Cognitive dissonance
While shopping at Costco the other day I bought a copy of Thomas Pynchon's latest novel, Against the Day. It was a good price — a $35 book for $20 — but still, Costco? Laid out on a table next to an enormous stack of those Chicken Soup... books?
Time will tell if I am actually able to read it. After having thrown myself against Gravity's Rainbow close to twenty times and having still failed to get past the first couple of hundred pages, it may be a lost cause. However, if I get stuck I can always ask Max for some correspondence courses.

I can't believe what they have at Costco these days. Diamonds and everything.
I'm about a quarter of the way through Against the Day. The thing with Pynchon, at least for me, I can't get traction... the damn thing is gripping but it it swings and changes moods so often. I'm alternating it with Lunar Park for a total change of pace.
Have you read The Crying of Lot 49? That one is awesome, and much easier to get into than the Rainbow; I myself haven't finished GR. I can't do it. I think my problems started with the booby taps.
Yes, I read that when I was first on my way out of consensus reality, and wanted an easy transit to Paranoiaville. Great book. I should read it again soon.
