Nothing but a number
Occasionally I hear from people older than me that all this computer stuff is for young people, that they are too old to learn something new like that. I had this argument many times with my grandfather. He insisted that he was too old to learn, and besides, who would care about what he had to say?
Good Morning everyone. My name is Olive Riley. I live in Australia near Sydney. I was born in Broken Hill on Oct. 20th 1899. Broken Hill is a mining town, far away in the centre of Australia.
Maybe she doesn't type up her posts herself, but Olive is clearly the driving force behind them. One hundred and seven years old. That's got to be close to a million in Internet years.

I love the idea of writing down her memories, especially of historic events and lost times. It's vital to humanity's survival, IMO.
I've been on my parents' back to do the same thing (not necessarily a blog, just write it down!) to preserve our family's history and capture the homeland of their youth, but to no avail. The irony is that my father's a writer who gets to do it for a living...
Fear. There's something fearful in putting one's words out there. Fear that no one will listen, or worse. Fear of failing to master the technical skills. Fear of just not doing well at it.
Scary world, this.
My mom just sent me her first email. She's almost 82.
I got to my dad too late. I interviewed him to extract life memories, but he was already losing too much, mentally. I suppose I should make my mom go through the same thing. Unfortunately, she has no desire to learn how to use a computer, so I may have to make her write it all down. At least she's still got most of her memories.
